Singer Amy Winehouse has been arrested after police were handed a video which allegedly showed her taking drugs.

The 24-year-old is being questioned at a police station in east London, her spokesman said.

A Metropolitan Police (Met) spokesman said the arrest was in connection with a video of the star passed to them in January this year.

On 22 January, The Sun newspaper published pictures allegedly showing the star smoking crack cocaine.

Footage obtained by the newspaper appeared to show the Grammy award winner inhaling fumes from a pipe.

Common assault

Last month the star spent a night in prison in London before being cautioned for common assault.

The singer had admitted to slapping a man with an open hand in Camden, north London, close to where she lives.

A spokesman for the singer said: "She is being questioned in a police station. We will be releasing a statement later."

A spokesman for the Met said: "Around 1pm today a 24-year-old woman from the Camden area attended a London police station by arrangement and was arrested in connection with the alleged possession of a controlled drug.

"She remains in custody. This is in connection with an investigation connected to footage passed to the Metropolitan Police on 22 January."
