Fox News launching 'Red Eye'

Show will feature regular panelists

Red Eye - Fox News' Answer to The Daily Show

Fox News Channel is taking a dip in the latenight waters with "Red Eye," an entertainment show hosted by former Stuff editor Greg Gutfeld.

Hourlong, which preems early Tuesday in the East and late Monday in the West, will feature a round table of regular panelists, including political columnist Rachel Marsden and Fox News contributor Bill Schulz.

"Red Eye" will "react to the news of the moment with lively discussion in an unscripted fashion," Fox said in a statement.

Show reps one of two recent initiatives that appear to be attempts to broaden the definition of a news channel. FNC committed to two pilot episodes of "The Half-Hour News Hour," a right-leaning satiric take on the news, produced by "24" writer-producer Joel Surnow.

"Red Eye" will air at 2 a.m. in the East, 11 a.m. in the West, replacing a repeat of "The Fox Report" with Shepard Smith.

A veteran of Dennis Publishing, Gutfeld edited the U.K. edition of Maxim from 2004-06 and Stuff magazine.

Gutfeld is the only conservative bloggers on the Huffington Post; he runs another blog, "The Daily Gut," along with former Dennis Publishing editorial director Andy Clerkson.
