'Power of 10' powers CBS to Tuesday win

By Paul J. Gough

NEW YORK -- CBS prevailed in Tuesday's broadcast primetime thanks to the new game show "Power of 10" and an old favorite, "Big Brother."

Both "10" and "Big Brother" were the top programs of the night, outpacing reality fare on other networks, according to preliminary estimates released Wednesday by Nielsen Media Research.

"Power of 10" (8.2 million, 2.3 rating/7 share in adults 18-49) got the night started for CBS, winning in viewership and the demo. "Power of 10," however, was down 21% in adults 18-49 compared to last week. It beat ABC's "Just For Laughs" (6.5 million, 2.1/6) as well as a repeat "Singing Bee" (5 million, 1.7/6) and a repeat "Bones" (4.8 million, 1.3/4).

CBS continued the streak at 9 p.m. with "Big Brother" (8 million, 3.2/9), which matched its highest-rated telecast all season. Neither NBC's "The Biggest Loser: Did They Keep The Weight Off?" (6.4 million, 2.3/6) and ABC's "I Caught" (5 million, 1.7/4) couldn't keep up.

NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" (6 million, 2.1/6) and ABC's "Primetime: Crime" (6 million, 2.1/6) tied at 10 p.m. with a repeat "NCIS" (7 million, 1.8/5).

Tuesday averages: ABC (5.7 million, 1.9/6); CBS (7.7 million, 2.5/7); NBC (5.8 million, 2.1/6); Fox (6.3 million, 2.0/6); and The CW (1.1 million, 0.5/1).
