Posh Spice Quits $20 Million NBC Reality Show
Victoria Beckham walked out on her $20 million dollar NBC TV series to support hubby David’s England comeback - after insisting: “My family will always come before my career.”
Posh, 33, was fuming when producers of the fly-on-the-wall series about her move to America insisted she must fly out to Los Angeles this week for a fortnight’s filming.
It would have meant she had to miss not only Becks’s much-heralded England return against Brazil tonight - but the vital Euro qualifier against Estonia on Wednesday and his final game for Real Madrid next week.
A US source said: “She told producers she was not going to miss David’s England game and they seemed unwilling to compromise.
“It’s also his last Madrid match next week and she’d told them months ago that she was going to be by his side - but they seemed to expect filming to take precedence.
“It’s a real sacrifice for her as the TV series was a great launch-pad for her career over there. But she felt she was being pushed into a corner and David was obviously always going to take priority.”
NBC has been billing the series as a hilarious look at the Spice Girl-turned-businesswoman’s move to America.
It was scheduled to be the jewel in the crown of the station’s autumn schedule.
President of NBC Entertainment Kevin Reilly said a few weeks ago: “The series will give viewers a glimpse into what makes Victoria so popular and admired as one of the most glamorous women in the world.”
After all the hype, NBC executives were stunned when the mum of three told them David came first. They are now frantically trying for a compromise and hope to schedule a one-off, hour-long special instead.
The source said: “The series was going to be a highlight of the channel’s autumn season and now that’s all up in the air.
“Victoria was told she had to fly out to Los Angeles this week for a fortnight to film six half-hour episodes back-to-back. She told producers there was no way. It really put the cat among the pigeons.
“Victoria is always happy to fulfil her obligations and she’ll fly out at the end of June to do another week’s filming. But that will only give the network about half an hour’s footage on top of the half hour they shot last month.
“Vic is fiercely loyal to David - the whole move to Los Angeles was for him and his career in the first place. She was in tears when she heard he’d been recalled to the England squad as she knew that was his ultimate dream.
“She had a real laugh during the initial filming of the series last month.
“But there is absolutely no way she’d have sacrificed being there to spur him on as he played against Brazil tonight just to do a TV show - regardless of how much it would help her profile in the US.”
Victoria and David move into an 21 million Beverly Hills mansion next month ahead of his first match for new team LA Galaxy.
They are launching themselves upon the American public with a joint photoshoot for prestigious US fashion mag W.
Posh has also signed deals in the States to distribute her denim designs and a forthcoming range of shoes.
Her spokeswoman said yesterday: “Victoria has had great fun filming the show. However the schedule was incredibly tight and it is up to the network what happens next.”
